Unfortunately that's an LTE sim slot, and there is not even a radio attached to it at this point...

Today I was excited to receive the Xoom 3g wifi tablet from Verizon. I live in Sydney so yeah you can guess the rest. I am stuffed aren't I? Is there anyway on earth I can unlock the CDMA to a standard GSM? I did read the above, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

Sorry Nite but CDMA and GSM are to completely incompatible radio types. There is no way to make either a GSM device work on a CDMA net work or, a CDMA device work on a GSM network.
