Exchanged Xoom - problem restoring to new hardware

I had to exchange my 3G Xoom (bought launch day) due to a failing video card. As I had forgotten that my privacy setting was checked to back up settings, wifi passwords, bookmarks, etc. to Google servers I was pleasantly surprised to be able to instantly connect to my home WLAN. Cool. I was not so lucky with my wireless travel router. It will not connect, regardless of many attempts to delete ("forget") the connection and re-enter. Nada. The wifi indicates "connecting" and will not progress further. Router is fine and my Droid X connects as usual instantaneously.

As I am currently on the road with this problem I would like to find a solution that does not involve a factory reset. Even doing that, would the old settings remain on Google servers and restore the same settings that seem to be causing a problem? Something, somewhere is preventing me from wiping/changing the settings.

I have reset the router, deleted the connection, re-entered the SSID and key numerous times to no avail. The only thing remaining I can think of is to do a factory reset of the router, wiping it clean, and setting it up with a new SSID. Or will a simple SSID change do the trick? I cannot try this until I retun home with a computer connection.

Any ideas greatly appreciated. I'm stuck!
