Xoom video stops recording by itself

I've been trying to use the motorola xoom to record my children's recital. The first time I tried it, the video stops recorrding at 33 minutes and 35 seconds. At that time, the battery was still over 70% and I still had a 1 gig of memory left.

I thought maybe 1 gig was not enought so I erased more data files until I had 7 gig of free memory. The second time, I did the xoom recording of video, it again stopped at 33:35.

Does anybody know why this is happening?

I've never recorded video so long before. I recall reading somewhere before that it is related to file size. How big was the movie file when saved?

Both video recordings were 1.9 Gigs. If there is a file size limit on video recordings that is very disappointing.

I did a search but could not find the reference.

There is a thread over at Motorola where they state that all prior android versions had no limit when writing to SD card.
However they only tested honeycomb to 25 mins not to failure.

Are you on 3.1? Is there an option to write to the SD card slot?

Haven't got 3.1 myself so don't know if a change was implemented but can't see an option for it in my version on 3.0.

Yup, I'm on version 3.1. But my understanding is the SD slot is not functional yet. Regardless, I think it's strange that approximately only 30 min of video can be written to the Xoom memory.

Ill do a test tomorrow to see if I get the same.
I will set it up to see what the dog does while I'm out. I'll let you know the results. (Of the video length not what the dog does)
At least we will know if its an inherent limit or if its just a problem with your device.

Thanks,looking forward to seeing how you fare. It's too bad my Xoom can't record more than 30 min of video as the Xoom has an outstanding battery life and can easily records 2 to 3 hours of video.

OK first test done this morning

File size 1.9gb length 33 min 48 secs!

I'm gonna try some more test to see if its to do with screen time out.

Very very interesting! Thank you for your initial tests. I can tell you from my own experiments it's not related to memory size ( I have 7 gigs free) nor batttery life (battery fully charged.) I've set my screen time out to 5 min.

Well its definately not screen time out as you'd probably figured. SaE result when set on 5 mins.

The dog slept by the way. :-)

Tomorrow I'm going to try recording in low quality. That way we will find out if its time or file size related.
Not sure I will find a fix but I want to know what the limitation is on.
