Email sync instead of upload

I have an Android phone ( HTC ) and have recently got my Xoom tablet.

My email account is a pop3 server. On both the phone and the Xoom they are set to NOT 'delete messages from server'


I receive my emails on both devices without a problem. However when I download emails onto my pc, which does delete them from the server, my phone retains messages in the inbox, but the Xoom synchronises and because the messages have been removed from the server they disappear from the inbox on the Xoom.

I can't see any settings to select download instaed of synchronise.

Any ideas??
