Here are the full details on that new Samsung-made Google Nexus 10 Tablet that was just announced. We have included Samsung's full press email and you can see the pic below includes full specs on the new device. The pricing for this tablet is outstanding considering the specs and incredible battery life. For the longest time, we have seen other manufacturers smash their heads against a brick wall trying to create a tablet that could compete directly with the iPad. This new pure-Nexus Google device might be the first one to truly have shot at making that dream a reality.

Phone UI on a ten inch tablet is as big a mistake as no landscape mode on the Nexus 7 launcher for Android 4.1.1.

Did 4.1.2 fix that on the Nexus 7?

Yes it did. User demand forced them to go back on their original decision to disallow it.

Obviously it's a matter of preference, but the bigger the device, the less user friendly it is to have to be reaching up to the top of the screen to reach your notifications and settings, rather than having them available at the point where you are holding the tablet, which tends to be the lower edge and the sides. Also, a navigation bar on a tablet takes up an awful lot of space just to provide three buttons, and again, when they are centred they are far away from your hands.

I believe the vast majority of custom ROMs for the Nexus 7 having some form of tablet interface built in for the user to choose makes this point nicely. Most users want a tablet interface on a tablet, and ROMs which do not provide it are not anywhere near as popular.

Hope that helps you to understand why many users do not want to be forced to use a phone interface on a tablet.

There are a minority of users who prefer the phone or "phablet" interfaces, and that's fine, but I think personally when the majority of people want something then it behoves the vendor to make it available.

Just in the same way that Google initially did not make landscape mode available in 4.1.1 and then had to enable it in 4.1.2, I think they will soon find themselves having to build the tablet interface back in.

Wouldn't it be better to listen to your customers and actually give them the choice, rather than locking it down one way or the other and then having to rework it back in?
