Evo 2 console will be like an Android-powered Xbox
Envizions creation is called the Evo 2, but it's not a smartphone. It's an Android Powered set-top box that connects to your TV for one purpose, video games.
Its appeal is in the open quality of Android. "Evo 2 is an open console and gamers can modify any part of the system," described Envizion CEO Derrick Samuels.
There's also a lot of hardware to power the Evo 2 - a 1.2 GHz Samsung chip and 512 MB of DDR2 memory. It will ship this fall with Android 2.2 but is likely to be upgraded over time.
With Sony cracking down is this the future of gaming ?

Very cool.... its gonna get interesting!
Keep on Xoomin'
Will this be able to compete with the current consoles in terms of power?

Will they be able to compete not only with power, but the quality of the games too? I don't want a set top box for Angry birds, I want it for games like COD lol. They'd have to dev for xbox, PS, and now Android?? That'll be interesting.
It says its going to be running on Froyo, I'd sincerely doubt it could compete with the current consoles in graphic quality. I would welcome another console, especially if they could somehow integrate it with our cell hones and Xooms, but could you imagine the rampant cheating and hacking wth the "fully open" console?
This would be something to look out for if it has decent graphics and game selection. Also will need to be priced more efficiently or have some really good exclusive. There is a box that is a system already which is called On Live and it just didn't live up to the hype. it streams just like this does but the main flaw is that it doesn't have the power that a console has. It's really just projecting the game. Also you have to pay for the game and then pay a monthly subscription fee to On Live to use the system. If this is not implemented the same way then this is something to look for. Definitely will be looking for info on this now that I know about it.
My guess is this has something to do with on live, as the Evo View (HTC Flyer) Has On Live on board. Could be way off base tho....
Remember: It's not really yours until you've voided the warranty.

Interesting concept when they package one with a tegra 3 quad core I will bite.
Never Fear the iOwl is Here
WOW thanks for the info! I didn't even know that the flyer had on live on it. That's pretty cool except the whole paying for the subscription and then paying full price for the game is something i'm not willing to do. But still can't wait to see what it is.
