I meant is the black bar meant to increase in size when u connect it to the TV? Like still by say 30 pixels. Am still not really happy with the quality of image, it seems really fuzzy, not crisp at all to me, not nice for photos. OK for showing a ppt perhaps...or the web.

I just tried hdmi to two different sets, on both, no matter what video it stuttered, droped out with the screen going blank on the connected TV's with the TV posting the message about no input signal. Using the browser or viewing webpages while connected with the hdmi worked fine.
Each one one of these videos worked fine on the Xoom alone, not connected to the Tv.
Cable or Xoom problem?

signal going from xoom to tv does not change when you drive video or web pages. Thus if the cable works fine for web pages, it should also work fine for videos.
Seems like an application problem to me perhaps?
Rockplayer light works well for running AVI's and causes no stutter when connecting to the HDTV over HDMI (even if I think it is a little fuzzy and low quality)

After a dissapointing try to watch some shows over the HDMI to the TV, I reverted back to the 'main screen' (XOOM), and finished the show I had started on the plane.
At this point I am using Mobo Player, I don't have time before work to try something elese, but I thought that the video output was conrolled by the Xoom hardware, the player just send the signal to the video circuit?
It was almost as if the handshaking for HDMI was not executed properly or as if the HDMI signal kept dropping?

Yanic, you mentioned application problem... well before packing up the cable to return it I figured I would take your suggestion and try the Xoom's built in movie player and voila!
It played a bunch of trailers and the show from last night and everything was solid, thanks!
Now all I need to figure out is if there are any adjustments for the video such as color or tint, but this might be just how the TV is working.

Try Rock player - seems the best I found - and I tried alot! The free one works well for me.
I am not too happy with the hue, tint and colour and so on... however I think this is a problem with the hardware rending of the colours on the screen from the xooms graphics output. It seems far too much colour, too fuzzy and generally poor quality. Its a shame for me as I would have imagined a far crisper, more accurate colour balance but as has been said before, its not bad considering its really just phone hardware outputting 720p over HDMI.
