Will Windows 8 Tablets Take Over Android as the #2 behind iPad?

If Microsoft makes the points in this article - Windows 8 could leapfrog Android to be the true iPad competitor | The Download Blog - Download.com come to fruition, will it be the new #2 trying to catch the iPad. I knew the iPad outsold all Android tablets combined, but I didn't know it was a 4:1 ratio (48 million to 12 million). Wow! Google, what's your next move?

Microsoft has a long history of hyping their product and then under delivering, especially on the mobile front. Every attempt a mobile OS from Mircorsoft has been a joke IMO. I think Android is safe!

I don't think Windows 8 will overtake Android.

The new Metro GUI looks nice, but I just don't see it happening.

I spent some time with the developer preview and earlier this week with the Consumer Preview, and found myself to be using the classic Win7 interface a lot more.

The ARM version of windows loks to suck terribly. 8 on mobile pc hardware will have some nice features, but Windows productivity software will blow on a touch interface.

ive played with one of the windows 8 tablets and microsoft has made that os completely engineered for touch. the metro ui comes up when u click the start menu. the os was smooth as butter and every function i played with was just as smooth. battery life is very short though...about 4 hrs. i suppose a tablet with an i5 and 4gb ram would drain power like that.

google search: samsung slate series 7.
it comes with windows 7 but upgradable to 8.
