The Xoom isn't confined in a closed ecosystem.

I think it depends on what you're looking for. The Apple ecosystem is restrictive but it offers a ton of apps and some seamless integration options. The xoom is more open and with that comes less restrictions overall. Ive tried ipad2 and felt like a caged animal. I wanted to add a shortcut on the screen and found the os really doesn't work that way. Sswitching between apps or more importantly tabs within the browser felt combersome. To me iOS feels more like an app launcher than a total OS. I'm not bagging on it, it's great at what it does. Its just too restrictive for me.
But I'll be honest in that the Honeycomb app selection, and quality of apps is currently lacking compare to iOS. Its early days for Honeycomb so that will get better with time.
The Xoom has the potential to be better, but right now - no. I've owned 2 Xooms and an Ipad 2, and I've gone on and on about why I prefer the iPad 2.
My advice - go out and try both, bring them each side by side, but spend time with each on their own.
Personally I think the Xoom looks much better on paper than it does in use.
I prefer Xoom than any apple device that require itune to work.
Took me 2 weeks to customise my Xoom to be able to enjoy it completely.
I dropped all my apples device for free and uninstalled everything that have the name apple on my computer.
Live free or die !
Go with the xoom... I was on the fence and I went with the ipad2... I hate the thing. You can't do anything without itunes. More apps, who cares, I have more apps on my droid 1 then on the ipad2... Almost every app cost money, and its not like android where they are .99 or 1.99 there 2.99 up on the ipad2. I regret my purchase everyday!!!!
If you want full functionality out of the iPad you need to use iTunes. If you you want full functionality out of the Xoom you have to use adb. I prefer adb to iTunes and it has made the device way better than an iPad in terms of multitasking and access to files through USB hosting. To each their own but I think Android is a geeks paradise, Apple is for everyone else.
I agree; iPad 2 all the way. Unless...unless you have time to attend Harvard, Yale and Princeton to obtain diplomas on all three. Then - you could possibly operate and enjoy the XOOM. What you're hearing from the XOOM lovers - is preference. Do the math. Apple sells 5000 iPads every day - to ever one Xoom. Why do you (not the rest of you) think that is? Plain and simple. iPad has it all over the Xoom. Buy a Xoom and you will regret it until the day your kids turn elderly. Fact. If I could get $400.00 for my 2 week old Xoom - I'd sell it in a second. Welllll....what are all you XOOM lovers waiting got. Google STYLUS-R-Us and you'll find my email there to make the purchase..
