I've had my Xoom pre galaxy but its still the best tablet on the market for me. If the Galaxy didnt have a damn proprietary port I'd consider it. Also while I think the screen is better my the only time I dont like my Xoom's screen is when its too bright like in a pitch black room or on a dark airplane while people are trying to sleep next to me...so the even more vivid sammy screen wouldnt help me out much. Although I heard the Samsung screen is more adjustable....dont know if thats true or not.

I wonder how the Xoom stacks up against the second wave of Honeycombe tablets, the Toshiba Thrive, HTC 10" Jetstream etc?

After loading some music for a friend the other day, it has re-cemented the idea that I hate Apple MP3 players. I've always had non-Apple MP3 players and used simple drag and drop to put files on the thing. When I had to spend 10 minutes installing iTunes, then 20-30 minutes trying to figure out how to simply change the default "Home" folder to a specified folder not on the C drive, then another 10-15 trying to figure out how to transfer stuff, I could have done it 20 times over on something else. Why not use a simple File Explorer? Just let me drag and drop files!!!! We've been doing it for (some of us) almost 2 decades.

And don't even get me started on that whole "virus" everyone calls iTunes. Want to install iTunes? Just allow us to do everything for you and to do that, we'll change all sorts of settings on your computer, giving us permission to install ourselves so deep in your system that the only way to ever get us off is to format the hard drive 20 times using military grade wipe programs.

I had a guy on the Thrive forums claim the Thrive beats the Xoom into the ground, and proceeded to mention the reasons why. Short of the full sized USB port, I argued that my rooted and overclocked Xoom could do anything his Thrive could do. He tried to say I couldn't use anything over an 8GB flash drive on my Xoom and I had to politely explain he was sorely mistaken.

There are a lot of misconceptions out there about other tablets. Which is why I joined all the other Honeycomb tablet forums to try to learn about them. And don't think that Moto has a hold on the whole "serious bugs in the tablet" issue. I've read threads on the others about screen bleed, power issues, backs falling off, screen breakage from 1 foot drops, etc. etc.

I know some of the Thrive owners are upset that the Excite is coming out real soon. More so than the people here upset about *rumors* of a possible Xoom 2 sometime in the future. The Excite is due for release in the next month or two I believe, so they are HOT.

But the new TI processors alone should make the upgrade worth it IMO.

I think TI is a bit behind in the game. I've read the OMAP4 is a bit better then the Tegra 2 but it wont be long before Nvidia is releasing a newer processor/chipset likely quadcore....

Nvidia is defining the future of tablets as we speak. TI has a lot of interests in mobile computing and I believe they are contracting hardware manufacturers for their new chipsets. It really all depends on what they are pushing with these chips as to the average performance you will end up with. I don't think anyone is in the same ballpark as Nvidia right now though.

    Love my xoom

After a couple of months I love my Xoom 10 x more. Its just so versatile and gradually more apps and games I like are appearing on the Android Store so I feel that I'm on the verge of having my cake and eating it too!! I was an Apple fanboy but IOS just can't compete with Honeycomb. Widgets are phenomenol. I can flip through news, see the latest exchange rates and international weather right in front of me without opening an app like you have to do for everything Apple. On other screens I can see my coming appointments and stockmarket again all in front of me no opening apps and bookmarks as well. Apple are just good spin artists because they have got sheep for followers. Thoughtful people who independently investigate cannot but be overawed by Honeycomb. I have 2 hour study courses over Skype every week and the sound is incredible with the 2 speakers. The cameras are great and I love playing games on this thing. Flash movies. When I want to watch a review or a clip online I just watch it!! No blank page like on my overhyped, overpriced iPhone.

To arrive at the conclusion that Android and Honeycomb is way better than anything Apple offer one has to be detached from Apple spin and hype and seriously look at facts and practicalities because that's where Apple dismally fail. I can't do any of the above mentioned things with an iPad or an iPhone and am no longer deceived by the Pied Piper tune Apple plays because for the first time I have discovered innovation and it was in my Xoom. The iPhone was always just a status symbol but never really gave me the fulfillment and enjoyment I have using the Xoom.

I was in my local best buy last week and they had a display with almost every tablet currently on the market.

In terms of build quality the only thing that was even close was the blackberry playbook. I was really surprised. I thought the Galaxy 10.1 and the Transformer would give me some buyers remorse over my Xoom, but after holding them, and the thrive (the build quality on the thrive actually made me feel sad for it) there was no doubt in my mind that the Xoom was the right choice.

Don't get me wrong, Galaxy 10.1 and the Transformer are not bad tablets. They just do not seem as sturdy to me and it really comes down to personal preference.

In terms of software, not all of the tablets were charged so I did not get to play with them all. Of the ones that I was able to try they all seemed pretty much on par with each other. Responsiveness of the touch screens and OS were about the same, except for the Acer Iconia which has a notoriously bad touch screen. I liked some things about the Galaxy 10.1's Touch Wiz skin, but not enough to make me want to wait longer for updates.

Overall I don't think you'd be disappointed with any of the high end Android tablets that are out right now. It really comes down to personal preference, and I don't think you can label any one of them the "Best" overall. That being said, the Xoom was the best choice for me .

(I did not even bother picking up the ipads)

I've had my xoom now for 4 months and I can honestly say I love it. All my friends and coworkers have either the iPad or iPad2. I opted for the xoom because I am a linux user and did not want to have to rely on iTunes to interface with my tablet to upload music, pictures, movies, etc. I use it primarily for checking email, browsing the web, listening to music, playing a few games, storing my photo collection, etc. My wife has now grown to love it as she loves to play solitaire on it and we can listen to our music collection no matter where we are at. It's nice being able to listen to our music at the park, on our back patio or any room in our home when we feel like it. The speaker dock is just fantastic. I've also had opportunity to watch movies on it during business travel. It's a perfect device for use on an airplane. Having the external SD card allows me to store my movies on it and not chew up the internal memory for those very large files.
I do notice some lag at times and I find that annoying but otherwise it is very stable and has been money well spent.
