WIFI Connection With Netgear And WEP Security

Apologies if this is common knowledge but it had me stumped for hours when I first bought my Xoom.

As normal it asked for the name of my connection and password. I kept getting out of range or just nothing at all. Also kept getting acquiring IP address on a vicious cycle. Doing a Google I found many other people with similar problems then finally cracked it by using my WEP key instead of the password. Luckily I had kept a note of it! Seems when using WEP with a Netgear router you can't use the normal password you would use with a pc wireless adapter.

hmm, I have a Netgear wireless set up at home. When I got my Xoom last month, I was up and running on the network using the WPA and regular password for the router.

Yes if you change to WPA you just use the password but it has caused problems for WEP. For some reason it then needs the WEP key. All very odd.

What password are you talking about, a wifi security key and a password is two different things. By password you ment the routers admin panel password, I am assuming. You cannot use that to connect to a wifi network. To access the wifi and connect to the Internet you need to enter the wireless security key if you have one setup. Also I don't recommend using WEP because it is unsecure and anyone in the street can crack it and use your Internet without your notice use wpa2 instead.

Well, misuse of words. When I was referring to password, I was talking about the key for the wireless router.
