Eek! That's a large game.
I assume that was an extra download outside of the market though... Do you know if it downloaded the extra game data to /mnt/external1 or /mnt/sdcard? I think it'll be internal, but thats A) way too much for a game IMO and B) most probably the reason your nandroids are massive.
Is there an option to move it to the external sdcard? your backup and restore times would be significantly faster if it didn't have to do that game.
No its a bought game. Although checking out my recovery with EOS recovery soft keys it is only 523mb. Looks like it didn't back up my data folder as the data folder for fifa comes in at 1.5Gb. So I take it that I would be better to do a backup without fifa being installed

If the data for your app is on the sdcard you won't get such a large backup. Have you checked to see where data for Fifa is stored?

The data for FIFA is in the internal sd card directory not on my external sd card. Not to bothered I can just copy that directory to my pc before flashing another Rom then if I want to revert back I can just put it back where it should be

Well, theres good and bad to that. The bad: a nandroid will back it up. However, the good outweighs it: when wiping/factory reset with one of the approved recoveries (that ggrant linked at the top), it skips the wipe of your internal sdcard, so you won't have to redownload the extra game data, just restore the apk using Titanium Backup; that goes for updating a Rom, or trying out different ones.
I didn't know that about the internal SD not being erased. I really should read more just got a bit to ahead of myself because I've flashed HTC and my Sony phones as well as modded other things like boxes and wii's. You learn something everyday. Thanks for all the help and I'm now using the soft key recovery from the second post..... thanks for the links

Every time I've wiped using the CWM recovery, the internal SD card (/mnt/sdcard) has been left alone. I still run a TiB backup and a nandroid first.
