    A few questions on Tethering

Is it a fairly simple process to tether a phone and also how long does it take once you've paired your phone to initiate a connection? Also would apps like Skype still function?

I have a HTC Desire with unlimited internet, which can operate as a Wifi hotspot so could I connect a Xoom to this?

    Thanks

Tethering to your phone is just like connecting to a WiFi network. You start the service, sign in, and wait a few seconds for connection. Not sure of the HTC Desire but I'm sure if its rooted, you can use the Wireless Tether for Root Users app to tether. Maybe check out Android Forum for your specific model of phone.

    Thanks for the reply.

Is wireless tethering the same as linking the Xoom via my phone acting as a WiFi hotspot? Because if it is I can do that straight off the bat, though I do have my phone rooted if I need to go more in-depth.

Correct. Tethering is using your phones 3g signal to connect other devices to the internet. If it can do it already with no additional fees then great. Rooting it allows free access via an app.

Brilliant. So in theory if I have a WiFi Xoom tethered to my phone its exactly the same as having a 3G Xoom?

Could somebody possibly assist me with this wireless tether app?

On my DX it was pretty cut and dry. Hit the wifi green logo and bam, you're going.

Went I tap it on my xoom, it says its running, but when I search for a network on my laptop to connect to, I don't see my xoom.

Do I have to go into my mobile hotspot settings w/in the xoom and enable it first, before turning on the wireless tether app?
