New xoom yesterday, got a couple of questions...

Firstly, I've been looking but do not see that anyone has posted a root cause or solution to the "lag" issue. Did I miss that discussion or is it still an issue? I will root if I have to, but would prefer an ota or settings fix.

Secondly, does the wifi xoom have a gps receiver? I thought it was using the wireless interpolation, but then when I fired up maps while playing with my tether to my droidx, it was showing normal GPS accuracy. Surely, the wireless tether doesn't share the phone's GPS receiver does it?

Edit: I found another thread in the wifi only forum that sorta answers the gps question. Looks like the wifi has gps but can't download the maps without it's network connection?

I got my dad a XOOM Saturday and it was a laggy mess. Went back to Verizon the next day and after a big hassle they switched it out with a new one. You might have a defected XOOM like I got.

My Xoom lagged after I was messing around and run z4root, which I really didn't necessarily want to run.. but wanted to see what would happen. Which unfortunately.. it majorly lagged the tablet. I had to do a hard reset, and it's been great since.

What kind of lag issue are we talking about? Is it general lag, or is it when typing in the forum?

Also the wifi Xoom does have an internal GPS chip.

I did notice the xoom does lag when it comes to typing in forums, then again so does my Incredible. Not too much of a bother but just gotta double check my spelling when i'm done typing.

The lag s essentially the screen becoming non-responsive. There seems to be two flavors. One is the typing lag, where the button pushes register, but the input field doesn't immediately show the character. The second is more what I saw originally, in that the screen is non-responsive. The machine's not locked up, as the screen will still reorient if I twist it around, but I can't get any of the on screen objects to respond. A quick power on/off usually fixes it for a bit. But I've had to power cycle twice to type this post.

I think it's just a common problem that won't go away. Even if you do get a post in without any lag I would think it would lag up eventually.

The type I got was the letters didn't show up in the box until about a second or two after the button register.

The typing lag im not so worried about. The screen input up and stopping is a major issue, especially as often as it occurs. Are they related? Possibly, but I don't think so, as other back end processes (like screen orientation) are working fine in the background.
