That's true. However, members may be able to read these books and shed their noob status more quickly thus becoming members that actively assist new noobs. I understand though, I apologize if you thought I was trying to suggest that any mere book(s) could replace these forums.

Also, I have purchased books from the missing manual series direct from the publisher in the past and received the eBook (PDF, etc @ nominal extra charge) with purchase of the physical copy. They have provided updated versions of the eBook to the email address I gave them. If this is the case, then it's about as upgradable as it gets. Other publishers do this too, I would hope it become more prevalent. I, of course don't expect them to upgrade the physical copy but it's progress IMO.
