Bootloader and updates

Afternoon,

I have a serious problem in which I hope someone can help me with as this is causing my stress levels to boil.

The problem is my xoom's bootloader is unlocked using fastboot oem unlock. And it was flashed with the US MZ604 images.

However I want to return it to stock android that is the 'Europe Retail' for MZ604 which I gained from the Motorola Developers site. These flashed successfully.

When using 'fastboot oem lock' the device has a lnx error 0x00004 I think, and the device will not boot. I must unlock the bootloader for the xoom to boot into android. Then, in come the updates. The device downloads the update as the stock image from motorola is 3.0.1. However, the device reboots into 'Android Recovery Mode' and the android robot appears, the progress bar gets to about 1/4 to 1/2 way across the bar and then an exclamation mark appears on top of the bot. Please help as I am still stuck on buggy android 3.0
