Cannot access external SDCard during Clockwork recovery

I am trying to root my xoom. Did the first two stages, i.e. unlocked the bootloader and installed Clockwork recovery successfully. However, when I am in clockwork recovery to install the superuser package I go the install from SDcard and then to choose which file to install from and it only shows me the internal memory of the Xoom. It is as if there is no SDcard. Can someone help me in this please.

    It's a bird
    Hmmm...not so sure about it.

Can you take a look at mount/unmount of sdcard in the recovery?

Most likely our Rescue Squad will be here soon.

Did not do any mounting of the sdcard in recovery mode as I thought it would already have been mounted.

The sdcard is not hot swappable, you need to turn your Xoom off to install or unmount from settings. If it's still not showing you may need to remove it and format it to fat32, I use sdcard formatter.

Do you mount the SDcard during recovery? I have no problem to see it when running the operating system only that I cannot manage to see it during recovery. Out of curiosity, can you place the superuser zip file in the internal memory and flash it from there during recovery?

If you use Rogue Recovery you can flash from internal storage. What version recovery are you using, there are only two compatible and see the sdcard, this one and the Rogue Recovery. If you updated your recovery with Rom Manager that's your problem, the only thing Rom Manager is good for on the Xoom is to reboot to recovery and Quick Boot is much better at that.

I used the following: recovery-clockwork-4.0.0.4-stingray.img - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download - Derek Scott. That is the problem then that I did not use the correct recovery image

Yes, you'll need to fastboot one of the two I linked.

OK thanks mate. If I decide not to root for now do I have to flash back the stock recovery or can leave it as it is, with the bootloader unlocked and with the above clockwork recovery module?

If you want to unroot you get your images here and the instructions are on the upper right of the link.
