odd graphical issue
hi there, for the past few weeks i've been having an issue displaying graphics with my UK gedified xoom running Jellybean (non-overclocked)
now the problem appears after playing games for a while (only graphic intensive - ie. gta3/the dark knight/asphalt 7/etc)
it does not cover the entirety of the screen but normally only a certain part (ie. the road and the car on asphalt).
I randomly on occasion get a flash of it during normal usage but normally it doesn't happen, However, it did appear today while trying out jamie oliver's 20 minute meals.

has anyone had this problem before? is it maybe a software bug or do you reckon it's the GPU giving up (doesn't seem to go above 27C so no sign of overheat there)
can I send my xoom back to motorola (still under warranty) flashed with JB or should I downgrade/unroot/relock before sending it if it's a hardware issue?
thanks in advance!

IMHO, I know that some apps still haven't been updated by the devs to run in JB just yet. For example, Angry Birds (space) gave me some VERY strange artifacts on the screen (not unlike what you show above.)
When I go to the market, it's telling me that Jamie Oliver's 20 minute meals is NOT compatible for the Xoom (at least under JB), but it is for my Bionic (on ICS). Did you purchase that while on ICS and then seeing this under JB now? That could be the issue. BTW, $7.99 OUCH!
I have Asphalt 7 but haven't re-downloaded it under JB yet. Doing that now, but HEAT is 1.37 GB. It might take awhile before I can let you know...
I could be wrong on this, but if you are not seeing artifacts in ALL APPS, I would suspect it's not your GPU. Sound off anyone if I'm wrong. If someone says otherwise, then yes, I would get it replaced if under warranty. As for me, I'm kind of paranoid, so I would return it to unrooted factory locked before returning. Just me.
Back to you shortly after Heat finished downloading.

try going in your developer options and turning off hardware acceleration i.e H/W. if that works you may want to do a clean install of the rom. There may be a less dramatic fix, but I don't know it. maybe fix permissions

WOO HOO! "One more for the books!" Well, I ran two tracks without any issues. Forgot how kewl that game is. I like johnny's idea too. Could it be that you had bought this under ICS, and then RESTORED it from backup under JB? If so, I would at least delete it from the Xoom and install fresh from the market. I THINK it will leave your progress intact but don't hold me to that.
Let us know.

bs286, As it turns out, I was playing Asphalt 7 last night (while there was a regional internet outage -U-verse: bless their hearts!) and sure enough, I DID have some graphic issues. One, the entire panoramic view (of the Havana track) sort of tilted down, enough that you couldn't play, and Two, a sudden and constant flickering of the whole screen.
Note these were two separate events, and both requires restarting Asphalt.
I wonder if the latest updates are bringing the app too close to it's graphic hardware capabilities?

thanks guys for the very fast replies! sorry I haven't really been around as i've been very busy.
and yes, that's exactly the issue I had lessimore, although I somehow keep also getting random black flicker every now and again on white pages, no big deal though.
Either way if I send it back, i'll do it about a month before warranty expires and will most likely re-lock it and set it back to ICS.
also, never spent the 7.99 as it was free on the amazon app store so no problems there!
btw, turning off H/w acceleration didn't help, then again it just looks like it's a problem with the app so no big deal
