I have also exchanged some emails with motorola. the response was as i thought it would be:
    once:
After reviewing the information given we have to apologise for the mistake made. The Motorola Xoom has been provided with an unlockable bootloader.

However, we are afraid that Motorola cannot release the fastboot files for your Motorola Droid Xyboard 10.1. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.
    twice:
We regret to inform you that the information you received is not correct. Motorola will sell unlocked handsets for chosen models, such as the Motorola RAZR. Devices with a locked bootloader will not receive an update which unlocks the bootloader.

We are sorry that we are not able to provide you with the fastboot files for the Droid Xyboard 10.1.
but no matter what the answer is, the do track the requests for fastboot files and unlocked bootloaders and hopefully will react sometime.

Well all we can do is try to hold them to their promise of unlocking ALL their current and any new models (carrier allowing) as they have stated back in mid 2011...( in fact they did promise to start this before the end of 2011) but they seem to not hold their promises, and I can not believe no one has started a class action lawsuit for them promising one thing then not even making an attempt to hold true! Blank you Motorola! (Sfw)

^^^ I try to not incite the mob but agree. Motorola really dropped the ball by promising unlocked bootloaders by the end of the year and then come up with an unlocked RAZR, with NO warranty, in Europe and no other solutions. Even old outdated devices get no love with unlocking their bootloader which is also pointless.

What gets me about it was I think it was more of a marketing trick, it was when HTC had officially said OK we will make it available, so Motorola had to do something, so if you ( consumer ) knew that my new Motorola was going to be unlocked then why not buy one? I think that was the how plan all along IMO.
But now as it is I will NEVER buy anything that is not fully unlock able the minute it is release (basically nexus devices) I have the Xoom or wifi and the galaxy nexus and those are the ones I have bought the two xyboards were won.
    Anyways I'm rambling on...lol

I wonder about that sometimes. I've been hoping that the Google buyout would help make a difference, but they've also said they're firewalling the two companies.

Thanks. I guess that would be my question to you guys. I haven't tried it yet my xyboard is in the mail. But I had a problem similar to his on my razr maxx and cheesecake put me on the right server. Ill try it when my tablet comes.

EDIT: Tablet came today!! first thing I did was root it and give cheese a try doesnt work as intended I'm guessing due to the file setup difference between gb and HC. was worth a shot.
