I have also exchanged some emails with motorola. the response was as i thought it would be:
once:twice:After reviewing the information given we have to apologise for the mistake made. The Motorola Xoom has been provided with an unlockable bootloader.
However, we are afraid that Motorola cannot release the fastboot files for your Motorola Droid Xyboard 10.1. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.but no matter what the answer is, the do track the requests for fastboot files and unlocked bootloaders and hopefully will react sometime. We regret to inform you that the information you received is not correct. Motorola will sell unlocked handsets for chosen models, such as the Motorola RAZR. Devices with a locked bootloader will not receive an update which unlocks the bootloader.
We are sorry that we are not able to provide you with the fastboot files for the Droid Xyboard 10.1.
