I like the 8.9" size. Seems perfect. Wonder how the dev community will handle it.

was just at best buy as customer service upped my renewal date by 10 months so I could get the XYboard. I'm having connection issues w/ my Xoom on 4G and the sales man at verizon simply told me he has the Xoom and would rather send the Xoom in to have it looked at than downgrade to the XYboard...
I'm tethering 24/7 to my Galaxy Nexus at ridiculous 40Mbs download speeds which is a heck of a lot faster than I was ever able to get on my Xoom 4G plus that line has unlimited data so I may just stick w/ the Xoom.

I would also rather have the Xoom, I've never seen quite as high as 40mbps but I have seen 24 on my Xoom. I'd rather have the Xoom for the developer support, I was rocking ICS on mine before I sent it back to Asurion![]()
Hello all!
Im new to this forum, but just picked up a Xyboard 8.2 and wanted to share my opinion. So far, I LOVE it!
While I cant compare it to an original Xoom, I have had some experience with other tablets.
I have owned:
iPad
HP Touchpad
iPad 2 (still own)
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" (Verizon)
Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus 7" (T-Mobile)
Xyboard 8.2 (still own)
As you can tell, i have had quite a variety of tablets - I love the iPad 2, but I have recently looking for something more portable. I tried out the Galaxy Tab with 3G first. It was a great tablet but I really wanted 4G so i sold it. Next, i picked up the Galaxy Tab Plus (4G ).... loved the size and speed, but it seemed unstable and flimsy built. (Plus my coverage was pretty useless).
So, that led me to the Xyboard. Yes, it was a lot of money (got it for $379 w/ contract) and it was slightly larger than I wanted, but it has Verizon 4G and it fits in my coat pocket. Build quality is supurb.
The Xyboard is performing beyond my expectations. Im still reletively green when it comes to Android and almost gave up on it after my GTab plus issues, but im glad i didnt. Its amazing how much more I like the stock keyboard on the Xy! Also the ir blaster/app works SOO much better than the Peel app that comes with the Gtab+.
Negatives? Well, I do notice a bit of lag, specifically with the web browser. Everything else seems to be running great. Also, while the ir blaster is better, its still very limited in range. Mine works no more than 8ft or so fom the Tv. The last negative i can think of is with the oem portfolio case. While its slim and protects the screen/case, it wont hold the Xy up for viewing. Poor design on their part.
Overall, I absolutely love this thing! While I dont know if its worth upgrading a Xoom, if you are loo,ing for a smaller tablet with 4g service, look no further!

I've noticed that the stock video player on the xyboard can barely play anything, contrary to what the specs say.
So, I downloaded both mobo player and rock player, set decoding to soft and they both play fine, was able to run various xvids and mkv bluray rips with no problems, try that!

So i lost my xoom in vegas during new years.. called asurion today to have it replaced and theyre sending me a xyboard. I was really excited until i searched the internet and it seems like there is zero development for this new tablet. when will i be able to root this thing?

Are they sending you a 16gb or 32gb? Model number in the Asurion email will be 1016 if its 16, 1032 if its 32... They sent me a 16 so I'm trying to find anyone they send a 32 so I can use them as an example to get Asurion to do the right thing.
Also, no root yet. Been working on it with someone else but can't find any exploits...
