Xoom and Canon 7d

I have been reading about how to connect my canon 7d to my xoom. I have downloaded the apps (DSLR Controller and another one). I connect to my xoom via usb, but the xoom does not recognize the camera. I have the latest drivers on both and did a os update as well - no change. The usb cable I am using allows me to connect to the computer and controll the 7d there, but when I connect to the xoom - nothing

Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?

Ideally, I want to use my xoom as an external monitor for the 7d in live mode shooting (video).

Did you get an OTG cable? Many have gotten an OTG cable from ebay or somewhere els instead of the Motorola Camera Connection Kit because of price.

I bought an OTG cable from amazon marketplace to try and connect my Canon 600D to my xoom. I want to view the camera's images on a larger screen than the camera's own viewer.
Unfortunately the cable does not allow this to happen, I can use the cable to connect a keyboard or mouse to the xoom but it does not seem to be able to 'see' the camera.
I have tried to buy the Motorola branded cable in the Uk but it only seems to be on sale in the US. I have tried to purchase from the US Amazon website but they will not mail goods to Europe.
Any ideas re apps that might help or US sites that sell the cable and will mail to Europe.
