Hi,
I'm a new xoom user. Can anyone tell me how to get a bluetooth keyboard to type international characters. It doesn't matter if it actually uses the tap and hold method of the on-screen keyboard or some other method.
Thanks much

Never seen that as a solution. If you find one be sure to come back and share I'm sure others would appreciate it.
New keyboard app you may like though

Welcome. i don't use a KB so I'm no help there.
Hi, Regarding entering foreign characters with the external keyboard: I didn't know how to do it until a little while ago. It's very easy. Just press ALT then any of the following characters: "e u c ' " etc. (experiment) and then the letter you want with that accent. for instance for cedille, Alt then c, for accent on e press Alt then ' then e. It's very, very simple, and undocumented. After you press Alt with the u (for umlaut) you will see the cursor change. Once the next letter is pressed it will appear with the umlaut.....
Hope that helps.
Hi,
I am adding some information to what I posted earlier:
Foreign characters on the Xoom Bluetooth keyboard
I produced the following foreign characters using the key sequences described below.
ALT e: é ú í ó á ś ź ć ń
ALT u: ü ë ÿ ï ö ä
ALT i: î ê û ô â
ALT s: ß
ALT: c ç
ALT: n ñ õ ã
ALT `: è ì ò à ù
Press and Hold ALT, then press either "e, u, i, s, c, n or `" to select the accent, then press any of the letters posted to the right of these letters, as listed above. Exceptions will be ALT s and ALT c which produce characters immediately.
Am not certain of the names, but "e" could be for "acute" accent. "u" for umlaut, "i" produces the little caret, "c" for cedille, "n" for the Spanish "enye", etc.
Pressing and holding ALT and the shortcut for the accent changes the cursor - it waits for the letter to be entered. Type it and the accent and the letter are superimposed.
visitor, I want to say a huge Thank You! for your info. You really save my time. I was thinking into return my keyboard to store for not being able to use accents - I'm brazilian. You are the man!
I'm sorry guys, but I'm from Brazil as well and I've just got this Xoom with the Bluetooth Keyboard and I'm kind of having the same problem. I've tried "ALT + smt" but it didn't work AT ALL... Is there any other set up I should do in order to make it work?
I'd really appreciate some help with that...
Cheers...
I'm testing with Jota text editor. When I press ALT the carat changes shape, then changes back when I release it.
These might depend on what Language & Input settings you have. I'm using UK¹ English for external keyboard.
When I type ALT+s I get German ß (Same thing when I pressed ALT+smt.. the m and t had no effect)
ALT+$ gives me € Euro
ALT+u gives me umlauts and attaches them to the next letter type (assuming the next letter can have umlauts).
ALT+i gives me a circumflex over the next letter as with umlauts
ALT+e doesn't do anything but I expected an acute
ALT+c gives me ç. Not sure how to get a cedille under other letters.
ALT+n gives me a tilde over the next letter as with umlauts
My keyboard doesn't appear to have a ` key so I can't test that one. It probably would give the next letter a grave
Pressing ALT+SHIFT+key gives me the capitals. Pressing CTRL+ALT gives some weird effects sort of like shift-lock only locks the ALT key instead.
