    Welcome to the forum

    First: Use Wifi to Update
Do the latest update first via OTA.
Go to Setting > About Tablet > Software Update..Let it update to v3.2 Officially

    >>>Rooting<<<

    A. Xoom USB Driver: Download and Install: here

    B. Set Up Easy ADB: Need for the rooting process

    1. Download the EasyADB(SDK_Tools.zip): here
    2. Extract the SDK_Tools.zip files
    3. Copy SDK_Tools folder
    4. Navigate to C: drive
    5. Paste SDK Tools folder on root of C: drive

Note: Ensure USB Debugging is turn "ON" on your Xoom. Settings> Applications> Development> "Tick" USB Debugging

    C. Using Universal Xoom Root: You need to have MicroSD card/External SD Card
Download this Root File and place it on your MicroSD card/External SD Card: here
*Note: Do Not Extract This .zip file.

Download this recovery image(recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img and rename it to recovery.img) and place it in the "SDK_Tools folder" at your PC C:drive: here

    D. Once the neccessary file in place: You can start your Rooting process

Open command prompt in Windows Start icon (in search textfield type in cmd and press enter)
    Once command prompt pop up,type:

    cd C:\SDK_tools
    adb reboot bootloader
    fastboot oem unlock
    fastboot reboot

    adb reboot bootloader
    fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Once you have verification on your device that this has been flashed, reboot your device by holding volume up + power.
Then 3 seconds after you see the "Motorola logo", hit volume down.

You should now see "Android Recovery" in the top left corner. Hit volume up to boot into recovery.
In "Android Recovery", go into "install zip from sdcard" -> "Choose zip from sdcard", then select the Xoom-Universal-Root.zip file you downloaded/put in the SDcard

Note: Use the volume buttons to navigate and the power button to select

    Enjoy

Does the SD card need to formatted before using it to store the files? because it was pre-used.

Needs to be formatted to Fat32, and I use sd formatter 3.1.

Have you downloaded the Xoom drivers and installed ADB on your PC? What guide are you using? Also on ADB you need to copy the platform_tools to your tools folder or vice versa which ever folder you're going to rum commands from.

Yes ADB is in C, including the recovery, and the Universal Xoom Root is in the sd card. I skipped the drivers, my usb drive is working fine... could that be it?

Yes, it might be. Download and install the Moto Xoom drivers and then unplug the Xoom from your PC, reboot the Xoom and PC and try again.
