As for losing "Quick Office" by GEDifying, I much prefer "Kingsoft Office" anyway and it's free on the play site.
Thanks Tedster for the recommendation. I'll check it out!

Sorry to go slightly off topic, but I've just tried Kingsoft Office and its AMAZING. If anyone was disappointed about losing QuickOffice by going down the GED route, then don't be. Kingsoft Office is way better than the free QuickOffice, so GED-away - as I will be tonight!!!

Thanks again Tedster for the great recommendation.

    Regards

Pulling my freaking hair out trying to get this GEDify guide working. Every step is taking me ages.

Installing the Android SDK kept coming up with Java errors - can't find java app, download from here. Download x64 version for Windows 7 64 and Android SDK still wont install. Turns out you have to install the x32 version for the Android SDK installer to work...

Now I can't use the fastboot commands because it is constantly waiting for my device, got this stage complete once but had same issue with adb reboot bootloader command.

    - Unplug your Xoom from the PC
    - Enable USB debugging
    - Plug it back and start cmd
    - Try it

such a simple way to try and it worked - many thanks...

If I am not rooting, can I push straight through the updates now to ICS?

You Gedified your Xoom? If yes, root NOT required. Go to setting, let it OTA for few cycle and last will end with ICS

I'll be updating the guide again (substancially) and providing a semi-automatic system for GEDIfying [and - optionally - rooting] the Xoom. I've made an "almost-one-button" GEDification System so instead of following all those steps and downloading all that stuff, it'll be a single download direct from my blog, with on-screen instructions and a simple GUI.

Will post again when it's done!

oh what a beautiful morning! GEDing was a breeze. ICS is mine. Muahahahaha! Many thanks all. It really was a breeze. Moto can go stuff themselves. Jelly bean in a few weeks! Hooray! Starting to think my next phone (due an upgrade in July) will be a nexus...

Aye, it's not easy with win7 x64 but it does work. If you google the error that pops up when you try to install the Android SDK along with the two words in capital letters with the underscore between, sorry I can't remember what they are now. You'll find instructions on how to set the path to your JAVA install directory. It involves entering just a couple of lines in "Environment Variables" through Advanced System Settings in Computer Properties.
    Cheers
