All went smoothly ,now running on 4.0.4. What a difference,I can't thank Simon enough for his easy to use guide. I was a bit nervous but everything went smoothly and now I have a Xoom which really does zoom.
Moto are saying they hope to get ICS out to the UK, wifi users "by the end of the month".
Of course.... they don't say which month!![]()

OK, I've been following this guide but I get stuck after the Xoom has rebooted, it loses it's USB connection, i.e. when I run the adb reboot bootloader it can't find the Xoom. So I look at this sentence in the guide:
cancel the initial configuration wizard, go to Settings on your Xoom
...and wonder how do I cancel the initial configuration wizard? There's nothing I can see that I can do to go into the settings and turn on USB debugging. Help please? I've run through this several times and it's always the same.
Ok people its been about a week since i Gedified my XOOM and i have nothing but good news to report all is well up to tonight and waiting for the Jelly Bean upgrade. Will keep you up to date as and when anything happens

OK, did this but now my Xoom is stuck on the boot screen. I can go back and run the first part OK but it never goes past the boot screen. I've tried a factory reset, Android recovery and a few other things but the Xoom refuses to recognise the USB connection and never get's past that damned logo. After searching this forum, I've noticed a lot of other people have had this problem so there must be an answer somewhere (I hope).
There are two known causes for this:
1) The USB drivers aren't working properly (reinstalling them tends to solve that)
2) Dodgy/faulty USB cable (this is actually VERY common! I've had dozens upon dozens of people tell me they had this bug, and solved it by using a different USB cable).
Ah wait!
Hold down Vol+ and Power until the screen goes black, then immediately release both and start holding down Vol-
This will take you back into Fastboot! Once there, in the Command Prompt Windows on your PC type "GEDify" and it should flash the GED firmware back onto your Xoom. This should then work!
I've been pretty relaxed about ICS on my UK wi-fi Xoom to be honest. However, I did pay attention to the fact that Motorola had kind of promised / indicated / implied that people would get it in Q2... obviously July is Q3, so I had given the system update button a tap over the last few days - but nada. I also browsed to Motorola's Facebook page and the level of disappointment and vitriol on there about this is quite high... seems like a simple shooting-yourself-in-the-foot moment from a corporation to me. Even if ICS does come out very soon now, and even if ICS is 'all that', there's a large bunch of people who aren't going to be buying Motorola branded products (if they exist) because of the failing here. I count myself as one of them. Thankfully I love my Xoom and I've not had any problems with it, and I'm not that concerned about ICS... but the approach taken by Motorola - and the lack of communication on something like this - has knocked my confidence in their support a lot. They have all these different vehicles to get information out to their customer set... but they just don't appear to be bothered. If you mention a date, you can caveat it, no problem... then if you miss that date, you should announce another date, you can still caveat it - but users want information that's easy to get hold of.
Cheers, Hippo
