Reverting from GED Jelly Bean to official UK rom

I've enjoyed ICS since January but now Jelly Bean is a bit of a let down. I don't like the new font, it doesn't feel as fast, and until the BBC fixes it's flash dependence I can't use iPlayer or watch videos on BBC News. As the UK model now gets the OTA update to ICS, I think I'll switch back.

Any tips for reverting or compelling reasons to keep it GED with JB?

I've downloaded the Europe (inc UK) ROM from Motorola and will repeat the unlock/flash/lock I did to GED the device. One thing I did notice is that Jelly Bean does not enable USB debugging by default - so this morning I spent ages trying to different linux machines that previously worked with adb to the xoom but weren't, until I realized it was the USB debugging option.

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you know what you are doing already, but if you need any help just ask.

By the way, you can use Flash with unrooted stock Jelly Bean. You just need to download the apk file from the link following this paragraph, go to settings => security and check "Unknown sources", and then install the apk file you downloaded. Make sure you uncheck "Unknown sources" again when you're finished, because having it enabled all the time is a security risk.

Download the apk from here: http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/jell...layer-apk.html

I've never relocked my xoom, I've heard it's the only thing that can brick it!

Tedster's right, relocking the bootloader is an unnecessary risk.

You're right, I didn't lock it again - I was trying to remember if locking it was necessary for OTA updates but it isn't and I didn't.

I accidentally brought my Xoom instead of my Kindle to work today and playing with it at lunch I'm coming round to JB. My main hate was the new font and the fact you can't clear all notification in one press. I didn't discover Google Now until today, not having a lock screen usually I didn't find the shortcut until I accidentally long-pressed the home icon.

It seems the main thing that is slow is Chrome. Loading and rendering pages seems to take an age, and there is a serious lag in the keyboard.

Have you tried doing a reset since you got the update? Hold down the power and the volume up buttons at the same time until your Xoom restarts. That will solve some issues.

If that doesn't work you can go to "Settings" then "Apps" then scroll across to "ALL" and clear the cache and data for each app that's running slow (Chrome and Android Keyboard).

If THAT doesn't work, try uninstalling and re-installing Chrome. If all else fails we can try a factory data reset, but that's the last thing to try to fix laggy apps.

Did you do a clean wipe after JB update (I didn't)? BBC iPlayer works just fine me on the stock browser.
