Question problem with camera & usb stick

my apologies if this has been asked before. Just gone over to the dark side and downloaded the us image on my uk xoom its brilliant!, however iwas expecting to be able to use the usb port but cannot get the xoom to recognise my skandisk usb stick ot my cannon digital camera. Am i doing something wrong?? Am using the micro usb cable that came with the xoom with a female to female connector inline so that i can connect the standard size plug from the camera ans stick usb's. Have heard about an ota cable but do not know what they are or if i need one to connect these devices to the xoom, can you guys help??

    Thanks in advance

    John O

What type of sandisk usbstick is it? I had issues with my sandisk cruzer (4GB). Just about every other stick I have works with the Xoom.

Its an OTG as in On The Go cable

I bought this one and it works.

    USB Host Cable For ARCHOS Internet Tablet 70 43 32 2 7: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

there are some others on there but this one was guaranteed to work and it does.

If rooted download https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result and you can mount an external hard drive and play movies off it etc as well as other USB devices.

Normal cable I don't know about as never tried it as it has male connector so can't connect to USB Drive as it has a small port

OTG Cable has a female end so can plug in drive via usb cable

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_On-The-Go says Standard USB uses a master/slave architecture; a USB host acts as the protocol master, and a USB 'Device' acts as the slave. Only the Host can schedule the configuration and data transfers over the link. The Devices cannot initiate data transfers, they only respond to requests given by a host. OTG introduces the concept that a 'Device' can perform both the master and slave roles, and so subtly changes the terminology. With OTG, a 'Device' can be either a 'Host' (acting as the link master) or a 'Peripheral' (acting as the link slave). The Device connected to the 'A' end of the cable at start-up (known as the A-device) acts as the Default Host, while the 'B' end acts as the Default Peripheral (known as the B-device).

USB On-The-Go does not preclude using a USB hub, but it describes Host/Peripheral role swapping only for the case of a one-to-one connection where two OTG devices are directly connected. Role swapping does not work through a standard hub, as one device will act as the Host and the other as the Peripheral until they are disconnected.

So maybe it works and standard doesnt.

If your rooted without Tiamat which it looks like https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result may well work with standard usb, give it a try.
